Hands Of Hope

June 13, 2008
We are in the midst of our busy summer season.  Diane and David have 4 bible schools scheduled. We are starting work on the youth center in Iaeger. We are having a summer day camp one week in Welch. We are  looking forward to starting the Holler Day Express.

We are starting to receive back to school supplies. Please let us know what you plan to bring and when. We need all school supplies to be delivered by  August 1. That should give everyone time to shop the back to school sales.

We need a group of approx. 20 workers for our Welch Christmas celebration on December 6. We also need to hear from those of you that are planning on sending gifts for the Christmas celebrations. You received a list of the gift items in the March newsletter. We have some commitments already but we have a long way to go.

I never thought this would happen but we are running short of clothing. We are in desperate need of children's clothing for back to school. We can not use winter clothing until after September 1. We are just out of storage space for winter items, so any winter items that come in are having to be thrown away.

I guess all these needs and concerns  are just growing pains but with the growth of the ministry  we have to be able to plan ahead. It is impossible for us to wait until the last minute anymore. We just have too many people in McDowell county depending on our programs now and I do not want to disappoint them.

David is working to grow our Filling Station lunch bag program to 750 lunches each Saturday.  Diane has restarted our Upper Room program and is having great success. We are working on our website to make it more interactive and we should have an events and booking calendar soon.

Hope to see you this summer and may God bless you all

March 12, 2008

We had our second leadership conference this past weekend and it went very well.  We had a pastor's group, a laity group and a special event for pastor's wives. This is just another way for us to build relationships in the community that is working.

You will be receiving the printed newsletter this week and it contains our plans for Christmas.  We have had to make some changes but when things are growing as fast as they are now we have to try and adapt.

Mary and I will be out of the office for the next few weeks. We will continue to check e-mail but fell free to contact Diane (304-938-2738) or David (304-435-6281) if you have questions. You may contact Tucker (706-464-0124) if you have anything for the warehouse in Canton, Georgia.

Below is an e-mail I received from David. If you can help with any of these needs please let him know.

May God Bless you all for what you do

Jody,
Here are some the ministry requests I have received for you to pray about:

Pastor Dan Pruitt from Trinity Temple requested a wheel chair for his church. One of the elderly ladies, Mrs. Pat Reinhardt, has great difficulty getting in and out of the church.

Pastor Mike Brooks from Harvest Center Church needs a serviceable 15 passenger van. The two he is operating to get children from the hollers to bring to his church are worn out. Each week his church feeds these children after Sunday School

Pastor Bob McKinney from Iaeger UMC has requested a 15 passenger van. Two of his lay people who attended our Lay Leader conference this last weekend told him that if they had a van they would drive to the hollers to get children and families to bring to their church.

Harvest Center Church needs new steps, wheel chair ramp, and porch on the front of the church. They also have rooms in the church that do not have heat and air conditioning.

February Message-------------------------------------------------------------

Just to let everyone know that we do not need anymore winter clothing at this time. We will begin stocking spring and summer by no later than March 1 and we do not have room to store excess winter clothing until fall.   We are however still in need of household items as well as personal hygiene items
and light weight clothing for school age children.

Every time I send out a message I get a few e-mails returned. Mostly because you have changed your e-mail address address. If you know of anyone who was on the list and would like to continue or who would like to be added to the list they can register on the HOHM website.

Thank you all for your support and we hope to see you soon.

January Message---------------------------------------------------------------

We have had some cold and snowy days in Iaeger this January but that has not kept visiting teams away. We have had 4 new mission teams visit the mission center this month. The Hope Chest and Filling Stations are going well in spite of the cold weather. David is getting settled in and finding that there is no end to the work God has sent us to do. David is working closely with local pastors and The Filling Station program. We are trying to expand from 600 meals per week to 750. Our next scheduled Pastor's conference is March 8th. Diane is busy as always especially now with The Hope Chest open
six days a week. We had requests from the community and we have the workers so we are open Monday thru Saturday - 1 to 5.  Of course this means more work and Diane needs more teams to keep up with the demand as well as more household items. Feel free to contact David or Diane about current ministry needs.

Special thanks to Woodhaven Baptist Church and Pator Sam Johnson of Ocean Springs , Mississippi. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and fellowship last weekend when we held our area meeting. We had aprx. 40 people in attendance and it was a good opportunity for everone to make new friends and plan to work together for HOHM.

We are already starting to plan for Christmas 2008. We need more space for the growing crowd. We have also changed our gift plans for 2008 and we will not be giving out shoeboxes. We had over 1800 donated last year and we did not have the manpower to go thru all the boxes. It is important that all the boxes be the same and we are just not able to get this done without inspecting every box. Everyone will receive a list of Christmas items as well as current needs in the March newsletter. We are expecting well over 1000 to participate this year and we are making these changes in order to handle the larger crowds.

As the ministry grows we are forced to make hard decisions. I know the decision to discontinue the shoeboxes will not be popular with everyone but based on the amount of help we have at Christmas and the overall inconsistency of the shoeboxes, we have no other choice. We will provide a detailed list of items so that we will have uniformity in the gifts for our growing crowds.

We continue to need canned fruit and canned meats for our food boxes. We can use 5oz vienna sausage and 3ox potted meat for our lunch  bags. We also use  individual size apple sauce and individual size puddings in the lunch bags.  We have a growing need for hosehold items, (sheets, towels, pots, pans, utensils etc.) baby items especially baby wipes, and clothing for school age
children.

May God Bless and thank you all for what you do
